Frequently Asked Questions

How long does therapy take?
Some individuals and couples come for several years and others for a shorter time, depending on what they need. In line with psychoanalytic practice, I don’t set a predetermined limit on your therapy unless there is a particular reason to do so - but we can discuss this if needed.

How much do you charge?
I charge £100 for individuals and £150 for couples per session, including the initial consultation (2024 prices). I have some flexibility on fees, if needed, but my low fee spaces are currently taken.
I bill monthly in arrears and payment can be made easily by bank transfer or via Wise for international transfers.

What are your terms?
Once we have agreed to begin therapy, all sessions offered will be charged-for. If you are unable to attend a particular session, I may be able to reschedule it in the same week, but this can’t be guaranteed and the session will be charged for. I have breaks from the therapy at Christmas, Easter, and in the summer.

Can we see you in person?
Unfortunately, I am only offering online sessions , so if you need to be seen face-to-face I am not the right therapist for you.

How do I book a session?
Email me on dhewison [at} protonmail.com and I will send you a link to a Zoom meeting. If you want couple therapy then also let me have your partner's name and email address and I'll reply to both of you. If I don't have space, I'll let you know. You can also phone me on 020 8442 2601 and leave a message, and I'll get back to you when I can.

What about confidentiality?
Your therapy is confidential. The limits to this are when there is a risk to you or to others (including children) or when there is a legal obligation to disclose. I will usually discuss this with you in advance, though I may not be able to do this in an emergency.
I consult with senior colleagues about my work but do not use names or other identifying details.
I keep only essential records and I am registered with the ICO (ZA783060).
A Clinical Trustee will have access to your contact details only if I become suddenly unable to contact you myself – for example, in the case of sudden illness or accident.

Who are you registered with?
I am a registrant of the British Psychoanalytic Council . I am also a member of the International Association for Analytical Psychology and Tavistock Relationships Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors.
